Mr. Gathagan, 87, Hollentown, died Thursday April 12, 2007 at ARHS-Altoona Hospital. He was born October 22, 1919, in Ramey, a son of the late William C. and Florence E. (Ball) Gathagan. On October 31, 1940, in Cumberland, MD., he married Blanche M. Irwin who survives along with a son Nelson Gene and his wife Gail of Knoxville, TN and a daughter Gail M. McClellan and her husband David of Glasgow. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 8 greatgrandchildren along with siblings: Susan C. O’Donnell of Utahville, Nellie J. Mackey of Coalport, Adaline G. Heverly of Fallentimber, Rev. Henry of Dayton, OH and John of Ohio. He was preceded in death by an infant son Larry, a daughter Rita Fink and a brother James.
He was a 1939 graduate of Beccaria Twp. High School. He served as a Corporal in the Air Force during WWII. He retired in 1981 as a foreman from Bethlehem Coal Mines and had attended Hollentown Assembly of God.
Friends received Saturday 4-8 pm at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow where funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 pm with Pastor Dean Hinton officiating. Interment in Fruit Hill Cemetery, Ansonville. Military rites by Coalport VFW.
