Mr. Maines, 92, a resident of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, and formerly of Altoona, died Monday, September 25, 2023 at the home. He was born October 16, 1930, in Blandburg, a son of the late Lloyd A. and Alverta J. (Troxell) Maines. On October 18, 1951, in Blandburg, he married Eleanor L. Fishel who preceded him in death in 2020 after 68 years of marriage. He is survived by a daughter Jill D. (Christopher) Zahay of Bloomsburg, two sons Neil W. (Colleen McCloskey) Maines of Hollidaysburg and Lynn W. Maines of Palmyra, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson Chad Maines.
Wally was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the Korean War, was proprietor of Maines’ Service Station for several decades and regularly attended the Wehnwood United Methodist Church.
The viewing and services are private and will be held at the family’s convenience. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow. McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
