Mr. Apple, 79, Hollentown, died Thursday, April 8, 2010, at ARHS-Altoona Hospital. He was born November 30, 1930, in Altoona, a son of the late Charles and Edna M. (Caldwell) Apple. On August 14, 1948, in Winchester, VA., he married Joyce C. Carter who survives along with three children Sharolyn C. (Wayne) Ivory of Patton, Gary C. (Joyce Grimes) Apple of Roseland and Michael L. (Jerilyn Ponist) of Glasgow, six grandchildren Kenneth J. Ivory, Andrew J. Ivory and Brandon J. Ivory, Brent T. Apple, Jessica L. Apple and Dylan M. Apple and two great-grandsons Aidan and Ian Ivory. Also surviving are two siblings Harold E. Apple if Wichita Falls, TX. and Virginia K. Martin of Chambersburg.
Merle had been owner/operator of Cambria Mills Coal Company and more recently the Coal Country Campground.
He was a member of the Hollentown Assembly of God where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday April 14, 2010 with Pastor Joe Hollen officiating. Burial in Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood. Friends received at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and then at the church on Wednesday from 10-11 am.
