Mr. Pier, 84, of Blandburg, died Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at UMPC-Montefiore, Pittsburgh. He was born July 31, 1939, in Dysart, a son of the late Stephen F. and Mary Edna (Mansfield) Pier. On March 30, 1959, in Blandburg, he married Mary Louise Spanik who survives along with four sons: Stephen F. (Barbara) Pier, III of Phoenix, AZ., Michael J. Pier and Joseph J. (Lisa) Pier, both of Altoona and Kevin R. Pier of Tipton. Also surviving are two grandsons Robert (Leanna) Pier and Zachary Pier, three great-grandchildren Gracie, Abbie and Lucas Pier, one sister Mary Edna Garman of Warren, OH. and many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Wendell Pier and one brother-in-law Dale Garman.
Steve was a 1957 graduate of Reade Twp. High School and served his country during the Vietnam War as a Private in the United States Army. He was employed as an oiler for C&K Coal Company, Blandburg and retired from River Hill Coal Company, Karthaus as a rock truck operator. He was a member of the UVHA, Bellwood.
Viewing will be private and at the convenience of the family. A graveside military honors committal service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 11, 2024 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow. The McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
