Mrs. Brown, 87, a resident of Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg, formerly of Bellwood, died Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the home. She was born August 24, 1935, in Blandburg, a daughter of the late David G. and Roxie M. (Hollen) Nash. On April 24, 1954, in Blandburg, she married James R. Brown who died July 14, 2013 after 59 years of marriage. Surviving are three children Vickie A. (Joseph) Harbula, Melissa J. (Douglass) Miller and James A. (Linda) Brown, all of Bellwood, seven grandchildren Lora J. (Stuby) Hinkle (Donald), Joseph M. Stuby (Lori), Jaime J. (Stuby) Henderson (Adam), Rebecca A. (Brown) Dougherty (Scott), David J. Brown, Victoria M. (Miller) Watters (Alex), and Dawson G. Miller and eleven great-grandchildren Spenser, Payton & Taylor Hinkle, Ryan Malone, Bridget Finochio, Joshua Stuby and A.J., Zoe and Vivien Henderson, Ryder Dougherty and Sienna Watters, many nieces and nephews, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Mary Brown of Houtzdale, special long-time friends and caregivers Connie Isenberg and Colleen Saullo and “adopted” granddaughter Mikayla Rodland. She was also preceded in death by a brother Thomas Nash, two sisters Betty Douglass and Faye Nash, a grandson Richard Harbula, a great-granddaughter Amber Dougherty and her parents-in-law James A.H. and Sarah E.R. (Metzgar) Brown.
She was a member and 40+ year pianist at New Life Worship Center, Altoona and the former Bellwood Assembly of God where she had also served as a member of the board, secretary and treasurer and had taught Sunday School. She was a very sweet and loving person, quick to give a compliment, a hug, or tell you that she loved you. God’s love shone through her and she was loved by all who knew her, especially her family and extended family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved her family fiercely. She was the absolute picture of what it meant to be a lady. She will be missed by all.
Shirley was Valedictorian of Reade Twp. H.S. Class of 1953 and had been employed as a waitress at the former Gable’s Restaurant as well as a sales lady there and at the former Hills Department Store all in Altoona. She was a member of New Life Worship Center, Altoona where funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, September 14, 2022 with Pastor Wayne Schaffer officiating. Burial will be beside her husband in Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood. Friends and family are invited to a viewing at the church on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and again on Wednesday from11:00 am until the hour of services. McQuown Funeral Home.
