Mrs. Gates, 89, Glasgow, died Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the home of her sister Donna J. Reffner, of Glasgow, with whom she resided for the past twelve years. She was born October 15, 1931 in Berwindale, a daughter of the late W. Russell and V. Irene (Hugheney) Swope. On May 6, 1955, in Glasgow, she married Donald S. Gates who died April 25, 1998 She was also preceded in death by a son Jerry “Butch” Gates who died in February of 1975, four sisters Vivian and Esther Swope, Elsie Kephart and Mae Hullihen Curry and three brothers Pete, Ray and Paul. Ruth is survived by her sister Donna J. Reffner, many nieces and nephews and her best little buddy that she loved dearly Aiden “Rooster” Rydbom.
Ruth had been employed as a seamstress at McGregor Shirt Factory and then as a waitress at Shirley’s Restaurant, both in Coalport.
She had attended the Roseland Christian Fellowship where viewing will be held Saturday, March 13, 2021 from 1:00 pm until the 2:00 pm funeral service with Chaplain Deb Holland officiating. Burial will be in Beaver Valley Cemetery, Flinton. Arrangements by McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow.
