Mr. Garman, 96, Arlington, VA., and formerly of Blandburg, died Sunday, May 16, 2021, at his residence. He was born August 6, 1924, in Blandburg, a son of the late Charles Wallace and Kathryn (Burns) Garman. He married Edythe B. Bricker on July 12, 1947 in Winchester, VA. She died June 28, 2007. Robert was also preceded in death by a bother Wallace and an infant sister Leah. Surviving are three children Sandra (Ed) Vickers of Delmar, DE., James Garman and Susan Garman, both of McLean, VA., two grandchildren Todd (Holly) Vickers and her son Tyler of Felton, DE. and Tara (Les) Salter and their daughter Saylor of Cornelius, NC.
Robert had attended Reade Twp. High School. He served his country during World War II as a Private 1st class in the Marine Corps. He retired from the Smithsonian Institute as a Construction Representative in 1989. He loved spending time with his family, spending time at his “cabin” in Harpers Ferry, WV and in later years spending his summers at his homestead home in Blandburg. He loved to build, travel, listen to music and dancing. He had many nieces, nephews, long time friends and wonderful neighbors.
Viewing will be held at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. A funeral will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 22, 2021 from the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow with full military honors. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date in Arlington, VA.
