Mr. Hinkle, 85, of Altoona, died Thursday, April 30, 2026, at his residence. He was born February 11, 1941, in Altoona, a son of the late Donald E. and Minerva E. (Marlin) Hinkle. On August 22, 1964, in Winchester, VA., he married Joyce E. Jackson who survives along with four children: Paul R. (Michelle) Hinkle, Jr. of Tyrone, Kimberly J. (Ron) Dalansky of Altoona, Donald B. (Lora) Hinkle and Todd A. Hinkle, both of Flinton. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Sydney, Brianna, Danette, Alyssa, Lexi, Tanner, Spenser, Payton and Taylor, four great-grandchildren Jaxon, Lakyn, Yamiah and Rhiannon and a soon-to-be born great-grandchild James. Mr. Hinkle also is survived by two sisters: Minerva Hart of Pinellas Park, FL. and Barbara Hinkle of French Creek, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and William and sisters Shirley, Ellen and Audrey.
Paul was a 1958 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School after which he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a Corporal during the Vietnam War. Following his military discharge he graduated from the Washington, DC Police Academy and then was a police officer there with the Metropolitan Police Force. He went on to be a police officer for Hollidaysburg borough and the variously named railroads in Altoona, finally retiring in 2005 as a pipefitter for the railroad.
He was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and gardening , showing his classic 1965 El Camino and, in his younger years, riding and racing his Bultaco motorcycles. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Altoona, where a visitation will take place on Saturday, May16, 2026, from 10:00 until the hour of services at 11:00 am with Minister Jim Quirin officiating. McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, is in charge of the arrangements.
