Mrs. Bowman, 90, a resident of Valley View Home, Altoona, and formerly of Glasgow, died Friday, November 11, 2005 at the home. Born November 16, 1914, in Cambria Mills, a daughter of the late John C. and Eliza J. (Conrad) Hommer. In September 16, 1933, in Cumberland, MD., she married Charles B. Bowman who died December 22, 1976. Surviving are 2 daughters: Nina B. Garman and Nancy B. (Larry) Wilson, both of Glasgow, 9 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family being preceded in death by: 3 sisters Nina Spencer, Edith Hommer and Charlotte Lamb and 3 brothers John, Sylvester (Buss) and William and son-in-law Dean L. Garman who died August 23, 2005.
She graduated from Reade Twp H.S. class of 1933 and retired from Warnaco Inc. in 1976. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, past District Deputy of the Rebecca Lodge and the Young Republican Club of Cambria County and had organized the first all female forest firefighting crew in the area. She was also a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Glasgow, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am with Pastor Charles Yingling, officiating. Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow. Friends received at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, Monday 2-4 & 7-9 pm and at the church Tuesday 10 am until the hour of services.
