Mr. Fortney, 78, Blandburg, died Sunday, July 26, 2015 at his son’s residence in Gallitzin. Born June 8, 1937 in Blandburg a son of the late Melvin D. and (Pearl V. Williamson) Fortney. On August 27, 1960, in Blandburg, he married Mary Lou Stiver who died June 20, 2000. Surviving are five children Margaret C. Alley and Denise P. Phillips both of Blandburg, M. Dennis, III of Hagerstown, MD., John A. of Gallitzin and Tammy L. Desch of Altoona. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, a brother David P. of Blandburg and a very close friend Ruth Fletcher of Bellwood. He was also preceded in death by two sisters Shirley Pavlic and Naomi Garman.
Known as Goose, he retired from Earthmovers Unlimited, Tyrone and was a member of the former Brethren in Christ Church, Blandburg, a member of the Fred Korman Lodge #55 IOOF, Glasgow, the Coalport Lodge #574 F&AM, the Altoona Shriner’s Club, Shriner’s Road Runners, Bellwood Eagles and AmVets and was a past Fire Chief of the Reade Volunteer Fire Company.
Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8 pm Wednesday with Masonic Memorial Services held at 6:00 pm and Thursday 10 until the 11 am funeral services at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow. Pastor Jon Hommer will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow.
