Joseph Leyo Obituary

     Mr. Leyo, 91, of Irvona, died Saturday, March 28, 2026, at his residence.   He was born January 14, 1935, in Rosebud, a son of the late Joseph E. and Agnes (Kruise) Leyo.  On October 8, 1955, in Madera, he married Margaret L. Durica who survives along with sons Joseph (Susan) Leyo of Irvona, Mark E. (Beth) Leyo of Atwater, OH, and Patrick (Mary Ann) Leyo of Hastings as well as daughters Marianne (Gary) Rydbom of Irvona, and Christine (Andy) Mulhollen of Glasgow.  Also surviving are 13 grandchildren: Emily, Alyson, Joseph, Brian, Benjamin, Lindsay, Meagan, Mara, Brady, Nathan, Katianne, Ryan, and Molly and 16 great-grandchildren.  Mr. Leyo also is survived by his sister, Cecilia Bandrowsky of Denver, CO.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, David Rydbom.

      Joe was a 1953 graduate of BCI after which he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves.  He took over his father’s legacy with the Leyo’s Grocery Store of Coalport and Patton, one of which is still operated by his children. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting with his family, especially going on trips to Montana.  Mr. Leyo was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the former Coalport-Irvona Rotary Club, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and a life member of the NRA.  He also sat on the Board of Directors of the former CSB Bank and proudly supported the local fire and EMS departments. 

      Mr. Leyo was a life member of St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, Coalport where a funeral mass will be held at 12:00 pm Wednesday, April 1, 2026, with Fr. Zab Amar officiating. Friends and family will be received at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 1-7 pm where a vigil service will be held. Burial will be in St. Basil Cemetery, Irvona.

     In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local fire and EMS departments.
