Mr. Bolinda, 92, for several years a resident of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home and a life long resident of Glasgow died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the home.
He was born June 1, 1917, in Blandburg, a son of the late Adam and Ursula (Leppeta) Bolinda. On May 15, 1936, in Cumberland, MD., he married Marian M. Reynolds who died March 3, 1992. Surviving are a son Sheldon W. of Glasgow and a daughter M. Pamela Mann of Citrus Springs, FL., 4 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandchild. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers Henry and Stanley and 3 sisters Mary, Anna Lewis and Helen Schmitt.
He retired as a postmaster from the Glasgow post office on July 13, 1979 where he was appointed in June of 1949. He also assisted in the operations of the Wade H. Reynolds General Store in which building the post office was housed. Prior to that he worked for four years in the shipyards at Brooklyn, NY., and for a time at the refractory in Blandburg. He also spent six months working for American Machinery & Foundry in New York. He served two and a half years in the US Navy during WWII, serving aboard the USS Denver in the Pacific Theatre of Operations, participating in a number of campaigns. He received five silver stars, one bronze star and his unit received the Presidential Citation. He enlisted April 14, 1943 and was discharged October 30, 1945. He was a member of the Tyrone American Legion.
Friends will be received Saturday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow where the funeral services will be held at 7:30 pm Saturday. Rev. Ben Warfel will officiate. Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow.
