     Pastor Sandy, 80, Fallentimber, loving husband, father and servant of God, died Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital. Johnstown.   He was born November 29, 1939, in Camden, NJ., a son of the late William Carl and Christine H. (Johns) Hommer, Sr.  On August 22, 1964, in Mt. Royal, NJ. he married Catherine Bell who survives along with three children Jon Calvin (Rochelle Minguez) Hommer, Jr. of Fallentimber, Rebecca L. (Elaine Benson) Hommer of New Market, MD. and Elizabeth D. (Nevin) Blickenstaff of Utahville, six grandchildren Brett (Chelsea) Hamilton, Jon Michael (Alysia) Hommer, Justin Hommer, Zachary (Sarah) Hankins, Shyrese Martin and Trista Myers, and eight great-grandchildren Hadley and Ridge Hamilton, Everly Hommer, Madeline Kowalczyk, Seth Breeden, Daniel & Eli Bush and Kallie Weideman.  Also surviving are four siblings Anne (Walter) Eaton of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Sara (Basil) Worl of Bradenton, FL., Donald (Jean) Hommer of Greentown, PA. and Tina (Dick) Hill of Tafton, PA.  Sandy was also preceded in death by two brothers: his twin Daniel Merion Hommer and William Carl Hommer, Jr. and a granddaughter Megan Benson.

      He graduated from Swedesboro High School in NJ. in 1958 and from Glassboro State College in NJ. in 1962 with a BA in Teaching. Jon taught high school math and science in NJ. before he and his family moved to Blandburg in 1967.  After his move to PA., he became an employee and then owner of Hommer Lumber Company, Glasgow from 1968 until its closure.  In 1978 he founded the Roseland Christian Fellowship and pastored there until his recent illness and subsequent death.  Pastor Sandy was instrumental in establishing and developing the Chaplain Training Corps for the Altoona area, was a member of the Reade Volunteer Fire Company where he served for many years as its Chaplain and for 30 years he served with the Ministry to Blair County Prisons.

     Friends and family are invited to visit at the Roseland Christian Fellowship on Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 10:00am until the memorial service at 11:00 am followed by a luncheon provided by the church.  The service and luncheon will be held outdoors.  His son Calvin Hommer and Rich Behrens will be the lead officiants.   Memorial donations may be made in honor of Pastor Sandy to Roseland Christian Fellowship PO Box 50, Glasgow, PA.  16644.
