Mr. Laird, 90, of Kutztown and formerly of Allemans, died Friday, December 12, 2025, at Willow Brook Rehabilitation Center, Kutztown.
He was born on December 3, 1935, in Bellwood, a son of the late Wilbur and Ada (Bousum) Laird. On July 22, 1961, in Grantsville, Maryland, he married Frances C. Hanna, who preceded him in death on February 21, 2022. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Yingling.
Surviving are his three children: a son, Ken D. Laird (Karen) of Allemans, and their children Nathan (Tabitha, great-grandchild Emersyn) and Maggie; a daughter, Sonalee M. Tetu (Lee) of Baldwinsville, New York, and their children Hanna, Ezrielle, and Anykalee (Ersilio); and a daughter, Jenelle I. Henry (Tom) of Kutztown, with whom he most recently lived, and their children Braden and Emily.
John was a proud graduate of Bellwood High School, Class of 1956. He consistently and faithfully provided for his family through various jobs. He retired in 1990 as a coal miner from Rushton Mines, Osceola Mills. Over the years, he also worked as a sewing machine repairman, a fish hatchery worker, and a grocery store worker. After retiring from Rushton, he worked as a custodian at Glendale School District and as a park attendant at Reservoir Park, Tyrone.
In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping, and later enjoyed camping trips with his family. John most recently attended Zion’s Union Church of Maxatawny, Pennsylvania.
Friends and family are invited to a viewing at Allemansville United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM until the hour of services at 12:00 PM (noon). Pastor Clare Pannebaker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Allemansville Oak Grove Cemetery.
