Mr. Evanskey, 67, of Tyrone, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at his residence. He was born October 13, 1954, in Altoona, a son of the late Michael and Sarah B. (McCusker) Evanskey. Surviving are four daughters Hailey L. Evanskey of Houtzdale, Alissa D. Collins of Coalport, Kristen L. Leonard of Altoona and Samantha J. Gardner of Cleveland, OH., eight grandchildren Jace, Jaxon, Madison, Shelby, Kayla, Braelyn, Natalie and Nolan and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four siblings Jim Evanskey of Lake Elsinore, CA., Marianne Schwartz of Lady Lake, FL, Tom Evanskey of Fallentimber and Richard Evanskey of Melbourne, FL. and his longtime companion Sue Gardner of Tyrone. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Stacy Evanskey and Mickey Evanskey, a sister Nancy Frey and his former wife Lee Ryen.
John was a 1972 graduate of Glendale High School. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and served in Kuwait during the Persian Gulf War, retiring as a Sergeant in 2014. He then was employed as a HVAC technician at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home until he retired in 2016. He was a member of the Coalport VFW Post #7043, the American legion Post #424-Bellwood and the Bellwood Eagles
A graveside memorial service will be planned at a later date at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow with full military honors. Arrangements by McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow.
