Mrs. Phelan, 50, Altoona, died Thursday, August 22, 2024, at her residence following a several years long battle with acute coronary syndrome. Born September 21, 1973 in Altoona, she was the daughter of William L. and Nancy (Stotler) Smith. On May 26, 2016, in Altoona, she married James K. Phelan who survives along with children John J. O’Neill and Jessilynn B. O’Neill, both of Altoona, her mother Nancy C. Smith Yon of Altoona, three brothers Bryan T. Smith and William “Andy” Smith, both of Altoona, Jason M. Smith of Swansboro, NC., and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
Jen was a 1992 graduate of Altoona High School and a 2019 graduate of the University of Valley Forge, Phoenixville, where she earned a degree in Psychology and Pastoral Studies. She had been employed as a drug and alcohol counselor at PATH, Altoona.
She loved her family with all her heart, placing only her love for the Lord Jesus above them. She was a member of New Life Worship Center, Altoona, where she led the Drama team and was a prayer warrior on the church prayer chain. A loving and caring woman her priority in life was her concern with others’ spending eternity in Heaven.
A funeral service will be held at the New Life Worship Center, Altoona, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 with Pastor Wayne Schaffer officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 AM until the 1:00 PM services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Nancy C. Yon to help defray final expenses.
