Jean Gwin Obituary

Jean M. Gwin, 93, of Champion, Ohio, formerly of Blandburg, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away while at home under the care of her family and Hospice on Monday, March 25, 2019 and will be dearly missed.

Jean was born to Walter and Marguerite (Bricker) Garman on September 22, 1925 in Blandburg, Pennsylvania as the oldest of seven brothers and sisters.  A 1944 graduate of Reade Twp. High School, she excelled in track and field and developed a lifelong love of reading and sports.  Jean married her childhood sweetheart, James “Jim” Gwin while he was on leave from service in the Navy during WWII, and they were married for 75 years.  She raised four children of her own and impacted the lives of many others.

Jean loved being outdoors: walking and riding her bike, planting flowers and growing tomatoes.  She was an avid swimmer who taught all of her children and grandchildren to enjoy the water.  She enjoyed bowling in local leagues with her friends, rooting for the Steelers and was thrilled by motorcycles.  She made a mean banana cake that she brought to the family reunion every year, and though she couldn’t hold a tune, she loved to sing.

Hardworking in all things, she was a dedicated manager of Lil Mac’s convenience store in Champion for nearly a decade.  Active in her community, she was always very generous with her time.  Jean was a breast cancer survivor and she participated in the Relay for Life annually.  She took great care of her health and was a loyal Shaklee vitamin representative for many years.  Jean was strong in her faith and attended Believers Christian Fellowship in Warren, Ohio with her family.

Most of all, Jean was a genuinely kind and caring individual.  She was a wonderful homemaker who opened her home to friends and family alike, and truly enjoyed caring for others (especially her grandchildren).  She made friends everywhere she went and loved to laugh.

Cherished wife to James H. Gwin, devoted Mother to Robert Gwin and wife Donna, Richard Gwin and wife Debbie, Marcia Ford and husband Peter and Barry Gwin and wife Marge.

Adored grandmother of Kristin Gwin-Fagan (deceased) and husband Keith, Heather Gwin, Samantha Ford, Melissa Ford, Gabrielle Gwin, Erica Pawloski and great-grandmother to Jax Fagan.

Beloved sister to Walter Garman (deceased) and wife Margaret (deceased), Charles Garman and wife Wanda, Dale Garman (deceased) and wife Mary, Richard Garman (deceased), Earl Garman and wife Terri and Joyce Thomas and husband Bill.

She will be joyfully remembered on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from noon to the 1:00 pm memorial services at McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, PA. and will be peacefully laid to rest in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow.  Services will be conducted by Pastor Jon Hommer.
