Mrs. Oakes, 82, of Ellington, NY., died Sunday, November 6, 2022, in Mahaffey, PA. at the home of her daughter Gina R. Brown. She was born May 29, 1940, in Franklinville, NY., a daughter of the late Thomas and Iva (Brooks) Jones. On July 10, 1962, in Elkdale, NY., she married Floyd P. Oakes who survives along with five children: Timothy P. (Bonnie) Oakes and Rebecca M. Oakes, both of Kane, PA., Daniel C. Oakes of Ellington, Gina R. (Coney) Brown of Mahaffey and John D. (Angie) Oakes of Jamestown, NY.. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. The last member of her generation she was preceded in death by brothers John Jones and Kerry Brooks.
Janice retired from Frewsburg Rest Home where she was employed as an aide. She was a member of Olean Revival Center where she had taught Sunday School. Her life revolved around making memories with her natural and “adopted” children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, November 11, 2022 from the Van Rensselaer Funeral Home, Randolph, NY., officiated by Pastor Ronald Frazier assisted by Pastor Jeffrey Schneider. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 pm and again on Friday from 10:00 am until the hour of services. McQuown Funeral Home.
