Mr. Reffner, 76, Glasgow, died Friday, July 1, 2016 at the home of his twin sister, Barbara J. Kruis, following a lengthy battle with lung cancer. Born April 26, 1940, in Cambria Mills, a son of the late A. Ishmael and Anna M. (Simmers) Reffner. He was also preceded in death by a sister Evelyn Frye and an infant sister. He is survived by his sister Barbara J. Kruis, her son Duane E. Smitley both of Hollentown and two brothers William of Sharpsville and Clayton A. of Austintown, OH. Also survived by friend and caregiver Warren A. Carter of Blandburg.
Gene was affectionately known as the “Mayor of Glasgow.” He had been employed by the former Hommer Lumber Co., Glasgow as a truss builder and had handled bartender and maintenance chores at the former Chateau Inn of Glasgow. He had been a member of the Bellwood Eagles, Coalport Moose, Smoke Run Croatian Club and a social member of the Richard L. Beers V.F.W., Coalport.
Friends will be received 11:00 am until the 3:00 pm funeral service Tuesday July 5, 2016 at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow. Pastor Jon Hommer will officiate. Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow.
