Mr. Gates, 86, a resident of Maple Heights Health and Rehabilitation Center, Ebensburg, for the past five years, and formerly of Flinton, died Saturday, October 4, 2025 at UPMC Altoona. He was born November 14, 1938 in Beaver Valley, a son of the late Rhudell W. and Mary C. (Foster) Gates. On November 9, 1957, in Winchester, VA. he married Elaine A. “Polly” Lewis who died September 2, 2024. The last of his generation he was preceded in death by brothers James, Marvin, George and Clarence. He is survived by five children Richard G. “Rick” Gates and his wife Cherie of Flinton, Brian L. Gates and his wife Chantel and Kevin L. Gates and his wife Samantha, both of Hollidaysburg, Duane L. Gates and Debra E. “Deb” Beatty and her husband Wayne “Skip”, both of Flinton. Also surviving are eight grandchildren Elam (Katie), Riyo, Brian (Crystal), Grace, Bradley, Gigi, Shyann (Jimmy) and Dravin (Payton) and six great-grandchildren Kaylee, Aaden, Callaway “Callie”, Finley, Ava and Cora.
Gene had been a self-employed proprietor and entrepreneur. He had attended the First Church of Christ in Altoona
Friends and family will be received at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 from 5-8 pm and again on Wednesday from 11:00 am until the noon funeral services. Pastor Bill Barnhart will officiate and burial will be in Beaver Valley Cemetery, Flinton.
