Mr. Gates, 81, a resident of HAIDA Manor, Hastings and formerly of Flinton died Tuesday morning, June 22, 2004 at Miner‘s Medical Center, Hastings. He was born February 1, 1923, in Flinton, a son of the late Leo B. and Edna A. (Gibson) Gates and on February 19, 1941, in Cresson, married Madeline R. Rickard who died August 14, 1991. Also preceded in death by a daughter Joan Graboski and a brother Donald. Surviving are 10 children: Robert E., Prince George, Virginia; William S., Louisville, AL.; Ronald T., Frankston, Victoria, Australia; Betty J. Reynolds, White Lake, MI.; Nancy I. Scott, Bellwood; Leo B., Fallentimber; Patrick M., Flinton; Kenneth G., Allemans; Linda J. Horon, Hollentown; Shirley A. Humphrey, Ashtabula, OH., 25 grandchildren, 15 greatgrandchildren, 2 sisters Marcella M. Fogarty, Kenmore, NY. And Betty L. Dehn, Tonawanda, NY. He retired in 1986 from Benjamin Coal Co., LaJose. Prior to that he was employed by Ed Glasgow Trucking. He served as a Private First Class in the Army during WWII and was a member and past commander of the Coalport VFW. Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow where funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday with Pastor Joe Short officiating. Interment in Beaver Valley Cemetery, Flinton.
