Elizabeth J. (Hescox) Hockenberry

     Elizabeth (Betty) Hockenberry, 89, a resident of Allegheny Lutheran Home, Hollidaysburg, and formerly of Flinton, died Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the home.  She was born September 19, 1931, in Cambria Mills, a daughter of the late Clyde H. and Catherine M. (Deppen) Hescox.  On June 21, 1953, in Mountaindale, she married Merle F. Hockenberry who died October 8, 1993.  She is survived by six children: Fred (Jackie, deceased) Hockenberry, Jr., Craig (Lisa) Hockenberry, Karen (Christopher) Glass, Kathy (David) Farabaugh, Koreen (John) Krise and Kelly (Frank) Yannitelli.  Betty was a proud grandmother of 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Surviving are two sisters: Shirley Nordgulen of Phoenix, AZ. and Dawn Troxell of Glasgow.  Betty was preceded in death by three sisters Dorothy Yingling, Ivon Kuhn and Jean Miller and four brothers Charles, James, Bob and John.

     She was a 1949 graduate of Reade Twp. High School and been employed as a waitress, a nurse’s aide at Elizabethtown Masonic Home and State Hospital for Crippled Children and then retired in 1993 from Glendale School District where she worked in Housekeeping.  She enjoyed reading, coloring and baking. She was a member of the Irvona Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.

     Due to COVID restrictions there will be a private viewing and funeral service held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Doug Williams officiating.  A memorial service will be held post-pandemic to celebrate her life.  Burial in Beaver Valley Cemetery, Flinton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Irvona Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.  Arrangements by McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow.
