Ms. Phillips, 58, Blandburg, died Thursday, September 30, 2021, at her residence following an apparent cardiac event. She was born September 30, 1963, in Altoona, a daughter of the late Melvin D. and Mary Lou (Stiver) Fortney. She married Timothy M. Phillips on May 31, 1994 in Bellefonte. He died October 17, 1998. Surviving are two children Timothy M. Phillips, Jr. of Tipton and Mary Lou Ryder at home, four siblings Margaret C. (Jim) Alley of Blandburg, Melvin D. (Jean) Fortney, III of Kinston, NC., John A. (Kelly) Fortney of Gallitzin and Tammy L. (Ron) Merritts of Altoona. Also surviving is her partner of over 20 years Dan Ryder of Blandburg.
Denise was a 1981 graduate of Glendale High School and was employed as a cashier at Boscov’s in Altoona. She had been an EMT for the former Reade Area Ambulance, was a former member of the Reade Volunteer Fire Company and had been a part-time dispatcher at Blair County 911.
A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from noon-2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions payable to the funeral home to help defray the cost of final expenses.
