Mr. Gathagan, 96, Clearfield, formerly of Ginter, died Friday January 30, 2015 at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehab Center, Clearfield. He was born March 15, 1918, in Utahville, a son of the late David A. and Cordelia (Rush) Gathagan. On December 15, 1937, in Coalport he married Vernadean R. Wagner who died September 30, 1992. Surviving is a son Richard D. (Sharon) Gathagan of Clearfield, six grandchildren Carl Gathagan, Karen Gathagan Peck, Maureen Gathagan, Patrick Dixon, Deane Milby and Christina Ensley, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and former daughter-in-law Patricia Gathagan. He was also preceded in death by two daughters Sandra Dixon and infant Shirley Jane, a great-granddaughter Angel Peck, seven brothers Aaron, Leonard, William, Miles, Edward, Roy and David and two sisters Nellie and Susan and a long-time companion Goldie Dotts.
Carl had been a miner at several area deep mines and owned and operated Gathagan’s Service Station Mountaindale as well the Pennwood Fuel Co.
Friends received Tuesday 6-8 pm and Wednesday 1-2 pm at the McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Carol Gathagan officiating.
