Mr. Apple, 94, a resident of Epworth Manor, Tyrone, and formerly of Hollentown entered into eternal peace Thursday, March 26, 2020 at the manor. He was born July 8, 1925 in Berlin, Somerset county a son of the late George Franklin and Hilda P. (Lane) Apple. On April 5, 1947, in Irvona, he married Josephine Fiedor who died January 27, 2015. Surviving are three daughters Cathy E. (John) Dobish of Strasburg, Nancy A. Rieg of Julian and Debbie A. (John) Simpson of Altoona, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by an infant grandson Rieg, infant grandson John Robert Simpson and a sister Phyllis Toney.
Bob was a 1943 graduate of Reade Twp. High School. He served in the United States Army as a Technician 5th grade during World War II. After 21 years of employment, he retired from Rushton Mines, Philipsburg, where he was president of the Holmes Safety Committee and was awarded miner of the year. He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Glasgow, the NRA, UMWA and the Tyrone American Legion for over 74 years. Bob loved his family, hunting, gardening and his work as a coal miner.
In abiding with COVID-19 recommendations, a funeral service will be held privately for the immediate family only. At a later date, a memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Bob’s name to: The American Legion, 1459 Lincoln Ave., Tyrone, PA. 16686.
