George Knapp

     Mr. Knapp, 91, of Holsopple, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 25, 2019 at his daughter’s home in Altoona.  He was born August 24, 1928 in Holsopple, a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Szegdia) Knapp.  On December 3, 1949, in Baltimore, MD., he married D. Eileen Narehood who died February 1, 1989.  Surviving are two children Joseph W. Knapp of Holsopple and Tammy E. Kaup of Altoona.  Also surviving are four grandchildren Jeremy and wife Krista, Aaron, Shawn and Scott and wife Davina, four great-grandchildren Gabriella, Jeremiah, Cory and Kylie and these nieces and nephews Thomas, Edward, Robert, Jackie, Suzie, Deedee, Rita, Mary Beth and Marie.  George was also preceded in death by a daughter Linda Wieczorek and seven siblings Annie Safko, Mary Patsy, Helen Findley, Margie, John, Joe and Pete.

     George was a 1949 graduate of Conemaugh Twp. High School., was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Windber and was a crane operator for the former Gautier Steel Co. and then retired from Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown.  He was an avid woodworker, loved bowling, swing dancing and was a cut-throat dominos player.

     A memorial service will be announced at a later date.  Please make any donations payable to the funeral home to assist with funeral expenses.  Arrangements by McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow.  A private memorial service will be held Sunday, November 10, 2019.  Please contact Jeremy or Krista if you plan on attending.
