Welcome to McQuown Funeral Home

And Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by Me."
John 14:6

Charles E. Troxell founded the funeral home in Glasgow, Pennsylvania in 1890. It was located opposite the old cemetery and next to the Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Charles E. Troxell was in the General Store and Mercantile business. In 1895 his brother Christopher Jay Troxell became interested in the business and went to the United States Embalming College in Chicago, Illinois. C. Jay Troxell took over the entire operation when his brother was elected Prothonatary of Cambria County.

C. Jay Troxell and his son Harold G. owned and operated the General Store and Funeral Business in Glasgow until Harold's untimely death March 14, 1956. C. Jay died in Glasgow on August 2, 1962. A son, Russell L. Troxell, joined the firm in 1956 and in the later years, after the death of his father C. Jay Troxell, the name of the funeral home became the Russell L. Troxell Funeral Home. On November 1, 1973 Russell sold the funeral business and real estate to Robert R. and Jewell (Hubbard) Plass, Jr., licensed funeral directors from Owego, New York. The Plass Funeral Home in Glasgow continued a long line of funeral service in northern Cambria County and neighboring areas in Clearfield County.

On May 15, 1985, Robert R. and Jewell (Hubbard) Plass, Jr. sold the funeral business and the real estate on which the funeral home stands to Funeral Director Charles J. McQuown of Ramey, Pennsylvania and his wife, Lesley Renee (Jackson) McQuown, the business being renamed as the Plass-McQuown Funeral Home. On January 1, 1987 the business became, and has since, been named the McQuown Funeral Home and continues a long line of funeral service. Charlie is a 1982 graduate of Juniata College with a bachelor's degree in Biology and a 1983 graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science while Renee is a 1985 graduate of Messiah College, had been a long time early education and enrichment teacher at Glendale School District and is currently employed at CIU10. They have three daughters Adrienne Hoffman, of Altoona, an enrichment teacher at Central Cambria School District and mother of Amelia, Karter and Ava; Ashlee, of Glasgow, an Athletic Trainer at West Branch School District and Aubrie, of Glasgow, a Flight Attendant for American Airlines, based in Philadelphia.
